October 2009
Dear
In this issue of eNews you can read about the exciting new initiatives and developments that our team have been working on over recent months.
A major development includes the expansion into New South Wales with a new team established in Sydney. With a local contact and presence in the state, our national customers will feel more secure knowing their valued partners are now just around the corner.
We are also proud to announce the launch of the new Research & Development Centre in Port Melbourne. A driver for innovation within the Australian IT industry, the R&D Centre is a resourceful facility that offers our clients the flexibility of testing new products and solutions off site. With the assistance of our engineers and consultants, customers have full access to the lab setting to undergo proof of concepts, evaluations and training.
In coordination with this new investment, Netsolutions has recently partnered with Victoria University to pilot new ideas and technologies through an industry based learning program for ICT students. The students will use the R&D Centre to work on a new integrated security management platform.
As we continue to grow as a team, and Netsolutions expands as a company, we are consistently evaluating our levels of service, support systems, and product offerings. As a result we will continue to deliver 'best in class' solutions.
If you require further information about any of the topics discussed in this issue please contact us.
Enjoy!
Yours sincerely,
The NetsolutionsTeam

Robert Jones is an expert Consultant with a strong background in networking and security. Most recent roles have included ANZ Country Manager for CipherTrust Inc., ANZ Country Manager for Packeteer Inc. and Senior Account Manager for Anixter Australia. Netsolutions is excited to have Robert on board and believe that his knowledge and experience will provide the NSW market with the extra value they are searching for in a partner.
Research & Development Centre Launch
Netsolutions has launched the interactive Research & Development Centre within the head office at Port Melbourne. Developed to showcase new products and design proof-of-concepts in a laboratory setting, Netsolutions customers will have access to new equipment to test, including onsite evaluation units to demonstrate how solutions can work within their existing environment.
“Our customers rely on us to provide them with the latest technology and advice from experienced consultants regarding their specific IT requirements. The Netsolutions Research and Development Centre demonstrates our expertise as an Elite Partner, having deployed some of the largest Juniper Networks projects in the world but it also shows an investment and commitment to the ongoing relationships we have with our customers,” said Theo Dimopoulos, Managing Director, Netsolutions.
Over $1 million has been invested into the Research and Development Centre which is equipped with the latest products from Juniper Networks including STRM - Security Threat Response Manager, WX Application Accelerator’s, EX Switching, Unified Access Control and the latest next generation firewalls – SRX series.
“This is a fantastic resource to have here in Melbourne. We can not only see the latest products from Juniper Networks in action but can ask the Netsolutions consultants any questions we might have about the benefits they deliver and how they work, whilst also being able to test them with the IT infrastructure we currently have,” said Simon Mills from Deakin University. Simon is the Unit Leader of Networks and AV Information Technology Services.
Netsolutions will continue to add new products to the centre's portfolio and welcomes multi-vendor integration.

Netsolutions & Victoria University Partner on IT Security Project
Netsolutions has been selected by Victoria University to become an industry partner in the ICT Industry Skills Scholarship Program.
The Program is a new partnership between the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Victoria’s universities and Victorian ICT industry companies to fund new industry-based tertiary scholarships up until December 2010.
Netsolutions aim for the program is to work with Victoria University’s engineering students to pilot new ideas and technologies. As an initial step the team are about to initiate a 12 month software development project. The project will be R&D focused with the objective to create a tool that will improve security management and audit processes. The tool will assist Netsolutions engineers by streamlining the control measures of the security service that we deliver to our clients. As a result, our customers will receive a consistent, reliable and efficient service that will guard their networks and exceed compliance demands.
This project is a key component of our security strategy and the opportunity to partner with Victoria University will allow us to take advantage of the skills and expertise of these exemplary academic students to achieve our goals. In return the students will gain valuable hands-on professional skills, improve communication and interpersonal skills and ultimately enhance the student’s employability.
SRX - Next Generation Security
As a leader in supplying high performance networks, Netsolutions partners with Juniper Networks to enable fast, reliable, secure and scalable access to applications and services over a single network. The SRX-series is a natural evolution of our strategy moving forward.
By consolidating switching, routing, and security services in a single box, organisations can economically deliver new applications and services, secure connectivity, and satisfy end user experiences.
Our customers’ can’t afford performance and security tradeoffs as they massively scale their networks to support advanced applications and services. SRX-series is a dynamic services gateway launching the highest performance firewall in the industry.
Netsolutions are currently working with Deakin University to conduct a proof of concept to IP enable a student bus fleet. The concept, to allow students to connect to the University’s network while travelling between campuses, is built on the Juniper SRX platform using a 3G connection.
The solution will integrate with the University’s existing infrastructure and security management systems.
You can check out the SRX Series in the Netsolutions R&D Centre. Email us your interest today and we will book you in.

Netsolutions Invited to Present at Local Government Conference
Netsolutions took the opportunity to present at the 2009 Local Government Technology Solutions Conference after recieving an invitation from the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV).
Themed "The right decisions for now", the 2009 conference discussed the changing economic, social and environmental landscapes, and provided insight and direction to council ICT professionals.
The program featured high profile keynote speakers, practical workshops and showcased successful local government IT programs.
One of the high profile speakers of day one was our very own General Manager, Erin Harte. Erin's presentation topic was themed "What is the difference between Network Management and Security Management?"
Traditionally network management has been a separate silo from security management. This has led to many problems and the challenge moving forward is to understand how to integrate them to gain a far more comprehensive understanding of an IT environment.
Erin advised the local councils on how to integrate their network and security platforms and by doing so they will be gearing themselves to deliver IT governance obligations and compliance demands.
If you would like to receive information on Erin's presentation to learn about Netsolutions Security Management service please contact us.
Things Are Not What They Seem....
Thanks to all of our customers who joined us for an eventful dinner on July 30th. We hoped you enjoyed the night and we look forward to seeing you and your partners again at the next event.
Netsolutions invited customers along to attend dinner at Bluestone Resturant & Bar on Flinders Lane. Sponsored by IBM Australia, our guests enjoyed fine dining while being entertained by the Hypnotist Zeiken Black. Our customers became the stars as Zeiken performed an amazing show that had everyone intrigued.
IBM.com Vice President Nic Nuske attended the dinner and gave us an interesting outlook on the new initiatives that IBM has planned. Although there is uncertainty in our economic climate, things are not what they seem...businesses are still growing and planning for the future. The ICT Industry in particular needs to stay one step ahead in reacting to the consistent changes in technologies that ultimately affect our business everyday. Although there are ups and downs, peaks and troughs, highs and lows, the importmant message is that we need to keep moving ahead and look forward to the exciting new innovations that these challenges bring to light.
For those of you who attended the event and would like to be sent the video footage of the hypnotist stage show please email us. Back to top
